The First Trump, The Last Trump, and The Great Trump (part 2)

Updated: Oct 11

Clear Oil Of Beaten Olives

One of the duties given to Moses for the priests who ministered unto the Lord in the tabernacle involved using “clear oil of beaten olives” for the light in the lamps, to keep them burning continuously;

“You shall charge the sons of Israel, that they bring you clear [2134- “clean, pure, righteous (figurative)”] oil of beaten [3795- “beaten out, pure, pounded fine, costly [see Rev. 21:9-11; the illuminated Bride filled with the glory of God, lit up “like a very costly stone”]”] olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually [8548- “always, continually, regularly, at all times”]. In the tent of meeting, outside the veil which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall keep it in order [6186- “to arrange, set in order, to prepare”; compare with the definition for “trimmed” in Matthew 25:7 above] from evening to morning before the Lord; it shall be a perpetual statute throughout their generations for the sons of Israel.”

(Exodus 27:20-21/NASU)

The holy place in the tabernacle of the Lord is comparable to the church age we are presently in. The priests had responsibilities given to them from the Lord that they needed to perform. For instance, they had to keep watch over the lamps to make sure there was enough oil in them to keep them burning, per the instructions of the Lord. It required some willing effort on their end. In fact, the Hebrew interpreted as “keep it in order” is defined as “to arrange, set in order, to prepare.”  This is very similar to the definition for “trimmed” in Matthew 25:7 above regarding the virgin’s response to the midnight call for the return of the Bridegroom (i.e. Jesus Christ). Unfortunately for the foolish virgins, their faith was not carried through to completion by taking seriously that which was necessary on their end in order to be fully ready themselves through the possession of oil.

Using the priest’s religious duty as an example for our being ready for His return, Jesus said the following; “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” (Luke 12:35/NASU) To not have your lamps burning is to be in the dark, unprepared and therefore unable to see the Lord when He comes looking for His Bride;

“Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert [1127- “to keep awake; to watch, i.e. give strict attention to, be cautious, active”] when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third [both of these watches were during the night, a dark time period on earth], and finds them so, blessed are those slaves. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming [which is usually under the cover of darkness], he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. You too, be ready [2092- “prepared, ready”]; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.

(Luke 12:37-40/NASU)

In regards to our bringing “clear oil [righteousness deeds/works] of beaten olives [pure, beaten out, costly] for the light” of the lamp of the Lord within us to “burn continuously,” Jesus said;

“The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear [573- “simple, single (singleness of purpose in which there is nothing complicated or confused), whole, sound”], your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness [4652- “covered with darkness”]. Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness [4655- “shadiness; i.e. obscurity (literally or figuratively)].”

(Luke 11:34-35/NASU)

To be clear-eyed is to have “unclouded, bright eyes.” It’s also defined as “having or showing an ability to think clearly; having clear eyes or vision.” Having the eyes of their heart dulled through double-mindedness in their walks with Christ, foolish disciples (i.e. foolish virgins) lack the discernment to recognize the “appointed time” of the Lord that we are now in. It has become “clouded” and “confused” for them.

I see a picture, in type, of them within the church of Sardis, “a luxurious city that is now an obscure village.” (Thayer’s Greek Lexicon) “Obscurity” just happens to be one of the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance definitions for “darkness” in Luke 11:35 right above. Sardis, therefore, is a picture of a church body that was at one time “full of light,” but due to a lack of clear vision (i.e. single-mindedness vs. double-mindedness; see James 1:5-8, 4:8, Psalm 119:113, and Matthew 6:24) has become dead,“full of darkness.”

Regarding their apostate hearts, Jesus made the following decree;

“To the angel of the church in Sardis write: He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars, says this: ‘I know your deeds [2041- “works”], that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Wake up [1127- “to have been aroused from sleep, to awake, to watch”], and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds [2041- “works”] completed [4137- “to make full, complete, to perfect, to carry through to the end”] in the sight of My God. So remember what you have received [2983- “to take with the hand, lay hold of, to claim, to make one’s own”] and heard; and keep it [5083- “to guard, to attend to carefully, take care of”], and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up [1127], I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour [5610- “a certain definite time or season; any definite time, point of time, moment”] I will come to you [see Jesus’ warning in Matthew 24:42-44]. But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled [3435- “to pollute, stain, contaminate, defile”] their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes [3528- “to conquer, overcome, prevail”] will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase [1813- “to wipe off or away, obliterate”] his name from the book of life, and I will confess [3670- “to speak the same thing, to agree, to not deny, to confess”] his name before My Father and before His angels [this is similar to what Jesus said in Matthew 10:32-33 below]. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

(Revelation 3:1-6/NASU)

In this message from Jesus, He stresses the importance of being “watchful” in regards to His coming again at the end of this age. Obviously, you cannot be erased from something unless you were first written in it. It is through the “soiling” of the garment by continuing in sin with no cleansing through repentance that will cause these believers in Christ (i.e. they had received His Word, who is Christ) to be erased from the book of life. They did not “guard, attend to carefully” what they had “received,” which was Christ’ invitation to be their Lord and Savior. Like the foolish virgins who heard the midnight shout to prepare themselves in order to be ready to enter into the wedding supper of the Lamb by being clothed in the proper garments for the occasion, they did not complete their works in Christ by doing what the Spirit said to the church at the end of this age (Revelation 19:7-8). (For more on the truth of how works, after turning to Christ are necessary to bring to completion our faith, as declared in James 2:14-26, see my book Works And Salvation.)

The question for us to consider is, “Can an incomplete faith save us? In the New Testament, the Bible clearly refers to two different types of works, one led by the flesh and the other led by the Spirit. The fleshly works count for nothing, not so with the works of the Spirit. We’ve gone too far in the church, saying that works have no effect on our salvation. If that’s so, why then did Jesus bring it up to five of the seven churches in Revelation? Take a good look at what He rebuked them for, and what they needed to do in response, and why.

Like the foolish virgins, the Christians in the church in Sardis did not recognize that it was “a certain definite time or season” when Jesus was coming to receive them to Himself. Through a lack of concern for the moment in time that was before them, they did not repent where necessary, causing their wedding garment to remain “soiled” by continued practicing of sin, resulting in their not being allowed entrance into the final feast of great joy. To them the door will be shut and they will find themselves, to their horror, on the wrong side (Matthew 25:10).

I believe that, by the mercy of God, He will grant a second chance during the tribulation for some to change a negative decree with a repentant heart. But if they do not repent during this most horrific time ever experienced by mankind, their fate will be sealed, and their name will be erased from the Book of Life (Psalm 69:28, Revelation 3:5; also, see the Bible study Disappearing Ink).

The Costly Oil Obtained Through The Refining Process

The definition for the Hebrew word interpreted in Exodus 27:20 as “beaten,” when describing the type of oil required for the lamp to burn continually, is “beaten out, pure, pounded fine, costly.” I see this referring to the dealing of the Lord with all of His children. It is through the disciplining and refining work of the Holy Spirit that the olives are squeezed in order to produce the precious olive oil. In Spurgeon's classic Morning and Evening devotional, he referred to our being “beaten out”;

“A faith which can say, in the direst trouble, ‘Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him,’ is heaven-born faith. The Lord afflicts His servants to glorify Himself, for He is greatly glorified in the graces of His people, which are His own handiwork. When ‘tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope,’ the Lord is honoured by these growing virtues.

We should never know the music of the harp if the strings were left untouched; nor enjoy the juice of the grape if it were not trodden in the winepress; nor discover the sweet perfume of cinnamon if it were not pressed and beaten; nor feel the warmth of fire if the coals were not utterly consumed. The wisdom and power of the great Workman are discovered by the trials through which His vessels of mercy are permitted to pass.

Present afflictions tend also to heighten future joy. There must be shades in the picture to bring out the beauty of the lights. Could we be so supremely blessed in heaven, if we had not known the curse of sin and the sorrow of earth? Will not peace be sweeter after conflict, and rest more welcome after toil? Will not the recollection of past sufferings enhance the bliss of the glorified?”

The Anointing Oil Flowing Down From The Head

Written by David, Psalm 133 is one of the “Song of Ascents.” They’re a group of 15 psalms in the Bible (Psalms 120–134) that were sung by Hebrew pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem. The songs are also known as Gradual Psalms, Pilgrim Psalms, Songs of Degrees, and Songs of Steps. They were songs sung as pilgrims traveled up the mountains and the uphill road to Jerusalem for the three main annual Jewish festivals.

In this particular Psalm, David, using the example of Aaron, refers to the “precious oil” that flows downward from the head, onto the body;

“Behold, how good [2896- see def. below for “precious”] and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together [3162- “union, unitedness, all together, alike”] in unity! It is like the precious [2896- “good, favorable, festive, pleasing, right, best”] oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard, coming down upon the edge of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon [2768- “a sanctuary; ‘sacred mountain’”] coming down upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing — life forever [5769- “everlasting, perpetual, forever, always”].” (NASU)

Mount Hermon is the highest mountain in Israel. It’s located north of the mountains of Zion in Jerusalem. So in a directional sense, it’s north, or “above” Jerusalem, representing something similar to the oil flowing downward from the “highest” point of the body which is the head. Our Head is Christ, the One from whom blessings flow, downward.

“King David compared God’s people living together in unity to the dew of Mount Hermon falling on Mount Zion (Psalm 133:1–3). This illustration is fitting, since the slopes of Mount Hermon, in the north, receive profuse amounts of dew. Mount Zion, in the south, is much drier. David compared the refreshing dew of Hermon to the blessings of unity in Israel, from north to south.” (https://www.gotquestions.org/mount-Hermon.html) In other words, it’s refreshing, bringing “life forever” (i.e. everlasting life) to those who dwell in a place of dryness, spiritually speaking. As pictured though, this unity cannot occur without the uniting oil of the Holy Spirit that comes from our willing submission under the Head-ship of Jesus Christ.

As Mount Hermon is to Mount Zion, as pictured by David, Jesus Christ, our high priest, is the higher source of the anointing oil that all Christians need so as to not become dry. As long as we remain under His Head-ship, through submission to His lordship over us, we too will receive of His life-giving anointing. When a Christian walks in rebellion against the Head-ship of Christ over them, they step outside of the place where the oil is flowing downward. It’s not until we repent that we are able to step back into the place where the oil of the Spirit comes downward into us with the blessing of “life forever.”

The Illuminated Bride Of The Lamb

While describing the new heaven and earth, and the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven during his revelation from the Lord, John refers to the costly, illuminated Bride of the Lamb;

“Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, "Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.’ And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her brilliance [5458- “that which gives light (light-giver), an illuminator, light, brightness”] was like a very costly [5093- “valuable, i.e. costly, honored; held as of great price”] stone, as a stone of crystal-clear jasper.”

(Revelation 21:9-11/NASU)

John saw the illuminated Bride of Christ filled with the glory of God that lit her up “like a very costly stone, as a stone of crystal-clear jasper.” I find it interesting that the Thayer’s Greek Lexicon states that Jasper is said to be, “a precious stone of various colors.” This describes the glorified Bride of Christ that will be made up of various skin colors on earth, not just one. Through their acceptance of the great price of the blood of Christ on their behalf, they have become united together with those who are of great value, and are highly esteemed in the eyes of the Father.

The Final Judgment On Yom Kippur

The following passage is from the article “The Celebration of Rosh HaShanah,” by Dr. Seong Hyun Park; (https://www.gordonconwell.edu/blog/the-celebration-of-rosh-hashanah/);

“Rosh HaShanah is also a time when God’s Book of Life is thought to be opened. There are three ways in which this will guide the life of the Jewish faithful during the season between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur:

  • A person’s deeds over the last year will be reviewed by God, and God will decide what the next year will be like;

  • Names of the penitent souls will be written in the Book of Life;

  • God will decide who will be forgiven during the season, making the final judgment on Yom Kippur.

Accordingly, people ought to carefully examine during the season the ways in which they have failed and make restitution with God and with people [1 Corinthians 11:27-32], committing to live differently in the New Year. The name of the season is telling, therefore: Yamim Nora’im, frequently rendered as “Days of Awe.” Whether the experience of the time will be awesome or awful will depend on how one reaches the Day–forgiven or unforgiven.”

In Remembrance

Malachi 3:16-18 – See the note below.

16 Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance [2146- “a memorial, a reminder, a remembrance”] was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who esteem His name.

17 "They will be Mine," says the Lord of hosts, "on the day that I prepare [6213- “to do, to fashion, to prepare, to press, to squeeze”] My own possession, and I will spare [2550- “to pity, to have compassion on”] them as a man spares his own son who serves him."

18 So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.

NASU

Before referring to the day of the Lord, when “‘all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘so that it will leave them neither root nor branch,’” (Malachi 4:1/NASU) those who feared the Lord spoke to one another and a “book of remembrance” was written with their names in it. Because they remembered Him, He will remember them in the day of His wrath. The Lord has other children who rebel against Him without repentance, and “forget” Him. If they do not repent, I believe they will hear the words, “Depart from Me!” Jesus said it like this;

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’”

(Matthew 7:21-23/NASU)

You may say, as many in the church do because of false doctrine, “You see, they never knew Him!” Is it possible, biblically, through continued rebellion against the Lord (i.e. not doing His will), without turning back with a repentant heart, to become as if He never knew you? In other words, through our forgetting God will He, seemingly, forget us? Through our lack of acknowledging Him, will He not acknowledge us? The key point to notice in Jesus’ words were “you who practice lawlessness.” It is the practicing of that which God forbids, without repentance, that is the catalyst for being forgotten by Him. This is why the Spirit is saying to His people at this very moment that we are to examine ourselves to see if there is any wicked practice within us that we must repent of. These are the spots and blemishes on our wedding garments that must be washed away.

The Lord spoke to Ezekiel about what occurs when the righteous turn away from Him and commit sin without repentance;

“But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered [erased, as if they were never done]. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die.”

(Ezekiel 18:24/NIV; also see Ezekiel 33:12-13)

Jesus taught that His angels will remove certain individuals “out of HIS kingdom”;

“The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of His kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil [they practice lawlessness]. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.” [See the Bible studies Outer Darkness, and Wholly Illumined No Dark Part for more on the Lord removing from among His church the “dark spots” (i.e. His rebellious children)]

(Matthew 13:41-43/NIV)

The Lord said through the prophet, Jeremiah;

“I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’ How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds? They think the dreams they tell one another will make My people forget [7911- “to forget, to ignore, to wither, to cease to care”] My name, just as their fathers forgot [7911] My name through Baal worship.”

(Jeremiah 23:25-27/NIV)

Lord declared that His people forgot Him because of their Baal worship. Idolatry, then, is a sure way to forget God, the One whom we should be worshipping. Over and over again we read of Israel’s involvement with idols, and the judgment of God that was sure to follow. This is an age-old, effective battle tactic of the devil against Christians that we must be aware of, and guard our hearts from.

The Lord spoke of this same issue through the prophet Hosea;

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten [7911] the law of your God, I also will forget [7911] your children.” [Remember what we read earlier in Luke 19:42-44 when Jesus spoke of the time when the enemies of the Jewish people would surround them and they and their children would be leveled to the ground because they did not recognize the time of their visitation. What about Christians today who do not recognize the time of our visitation in the second coming of Christ?]

(Hosea 4:6/NASU)

Right before entering into the Promised Land of their inheritance from the Lord, Moses warned Israel to be careful to not forget Him in their prosperity (which America has by the way);

“When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget [7911] the Lord your God, failing to observe His commands, His laws and His decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget [7911] the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery… You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember [2142- “to remember, think of, recall, to mark (so as to be recognized), to make a memorial (see Lev. 23:24 below)”] the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your forefathers, as it is today. If you ever forget [7911] the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God.

(Deuteronomy 8:10-14, 17-20/NIV)

The Lord declares that He will spare those who serve Him faithfully, “as a man spares his own son who serves him.” They are the children of God that remain near Him in obedience, mindful of doing His will that is revealed to us in His commands, not serving other gods (i.e. idolatry). This is the difference between remembering Him, and forgetting Him.

He has promised to help prepare those who remember Him for what is coming so that they will be spared from His wrath. They will be the ones who will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air at His “appointed time.” This is one appointment we dare not miss through negligence of the time.

Leviticus 23:23-25 – See the note below.

23 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

24 "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial [2146- “a memorial, a reminder, a remembrance”; same word in Malachi 3:16 above] of blowing of trumpets [8643- “an alarm, a signal, a shout, a battle cry”], a holy convocation [i.e. a sacred assembly].

25 You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire [i.e. burnt offering] to the Lord.'"

NKJV

There’s very little revealed to us by God regarding this “hidden,” mysterious Feast of Trumpets. In fact, the verses above are all that describe it. I believe the mystery behind it, which has been argued by different rabbi’s and ministers for years, is now being revealed because the “appointed time” for its fulfillment draws near.

Notice that this feast was said to be on the seventh month. Now, the name of Yom Teruah, the Feast of Trumpets, has been changed to Rosh Hashanah, “beginning/head of the year,” as a new year celebration, based on the agricultural/civil calendar. God had said that the month of Nisan, in the Spring, was to be the first year (Exodus 12:2, Esther 3:7). So they not only changed the Divinely designated name of the feast, but also the order of God for the months (i.e. the religious calendar), thereby “clouding” the prophetic significance of it. To me, this is from the devil so as to hide God’s purpose hidden within it. Again, to remember the Lord per His instructions is to be remembered by Him in the time of His judgment on earth.

Matthew 10:32-33 – To acknowledge God before man is to be acknowledged by Him before the Father. Jesus CLEARLY said that if we disown Him (“to contradict, to deny, to disown, to renounce a thing, forsake it”), He will disown us! It will be as if He never knew us!!!

32 "Whoever acknowledges [3670- “to speak the same thing, to agree, to not deny, to confess”] Me before men, I will also acknowledge [3670] him before My Father in heaven. [See Revelation 3:1-6 above where Jesus said something similar to the church in Sardis. There disobedience would cause them to become an “obscure village.”]

33 But whoever disowns [720- “to contradict, to deny, to disown, to renounce a thing, forsake it”] Me before men, I will disown [720] him before My Father in heaven.

NIV

Matthew 10:32-33

32 "Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.

33 "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.

NASU

(This passage is from the Bible study Remember Your Word Lord.)

1 Corinthians 11:23-32 – I believe this is not only a reminder of our being in covenant with God and the extreme seriousness of our walking in obedience, but also a reminder to the Lord of His covenantal obligations toward us. Spurgeon once said that we should go to “the great Promiser, and ask Him to fulfill His own word.” In other words, to remind Him of His promises which means we have become aware of them by the Holy Spirit (Psalm 25:14) and are expectantly looking by faith for Him to fulfill them. It means that we are trusting in Him to do what He has spoken. (Also see Luke 22:14-23.) In communion, we “do this” so as to not forget what He has done for us. It is to be done “in remembrance [a memorial] of Me.”

23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;

24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance [364] of Me."

25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance [364] of Me."

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.

30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.

31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.

32 But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned [ along with the world.

NT:364 anamnesis (an-am'-nay-sis)

(Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance)

from NT:363 [“to call to remembrance, to remind, to remember and weigh well, to consider”]; recollection:

KJV - remembrance (again).

(Thayer’s Greek Lexicon)

a remembering, recollection to call me (affectionately) to remembrance (Luke 22:19)

anamnesis [NT:364] - "a remembrance" (ana, "up," or "again," and A, No. 1), is used (a) in Christ's command in the institution of the Lord's Supper (Luke 22:19; 1 Cor. 11:24,25), not "in memory of" but in an affectionate calling of the Person Himself to mind; (b) of the "remembrance" of sins (Heb. 10:3), RV, "a remembrance" (KJV, "a remembrance again"; but the prefix ana does not here signify "again"); what is indicated, in regard to the sacrifices under the Law, is not simply an external bringing to "remembrance," but an awakening of mind. In the Sept., Lev. 24:7; Numbers 10:10; Psalms 38:1 and 70, Titles.

The Tekia Gedolah; The Last Trump

During the Feast of Trumpets, 100 trumpet blasts in specific sequences are sounded. The last trump, called the tekiah gedolah, is one long trumpet blast.

100 in Hebrew (qof) = Election of God’s chosen ones, set apart as holy. Means: Holiness, Consecrated, Divide, sun on horizon, Back of the Head, to Follow, Make a Complete Circle, End of a Cycle, Final, Behind, Dome (https://maryellenwrites.com/2020/05/07/hebrew-letters-and-meanings-unearthing-treasure-in-hebrew-part-3/)

From the article “Understanding the Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah)” by Karen Engle

  • “Some denominations in Judaism blow the shofar 100 times during Rosh Hashanah to call people to confession and repentance. On this day, a series of reverberating shofar blasts make three sounds, but it’s the last one that is particularly moving—one long uninterrupted blast held as long as possible.

[I believe this represents the Lord holding off “as long as possible” before bringing His final judgment on all of mankind giving not only the world, but His own people time to separate from that which He will destroy. I speak of God holding back before pouring out His wrath in an article entitled Saving Tadpoles.]

  • The word “trumpet” shows in Scripture for the first time in Exodus 19:19 at Mount Sinai:

“When the blast of the trumpet (shofar) sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice.” Here, Moses connects the trumpet sound that thundered with lightning flashes and a thick cloud on Mount Sinai with God’s voice.”

In the New Testament, the writer of Hebrews says of this event at Mount Sinai:

“You have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire … and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore.” (12:9)

  • In Revelation 1:10, John describes being in the Spirit when he heard behind him “a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying, ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last’” (Revelation 1:10; see also Revelation 4:1). Notice all these verses seem to connect the words “sound,” “voice,” and “trumpet” one to each other. [Also, notice the connection between Jesus, the First and the Last, and the first trump and last trump.]

  • Because the trumpet sound in the Old Testament relates to God’s voice, and because Jesus declared himself the Alpha and Omega in Revelation (the Word of God made flesh who spoke creation into being; see Psalm 33:9), we can relate the sound of a trumpet blast to Jesus’ voice. The trumpet sound is the mere “shadow” of the voice of God that will be heard when Jesus returns to Earth, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, “and with the trumpet of God” when the dead in Christ rise first.

  • This makes Psalm 89:15 even more beautiful: “Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound (Hebrew teruah = shout, signal, alarm, or joy)! They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance.” Those who “know” the voice of Jesus are indeed blessed:

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:27)

From the article “Rapture at the Seventh Trumpet Judgment?” (https://versebyverseministry.org/bible-answers/which-trumpet-announces-the-rapture)

  • “The last trump is a well-known Jewish phrase of Paul's day referring to the final trumpet blown at this feast. Rosh Hashanah observance involves blowing a series of trumpets at the feast each year. During the ceremony, there are a series of short trumpet sounds which conclude with one, long trumpet blast called the tekiah gedolah, which means “the great trumpet blast.” This is the trumpet Paul was describing in 1 Corinthians 15, and it announces the resurrection of the Church.

  • Paul was intimating that the feast of Rosh Hashanah pictures the Rapture of the Church. All seven feasts on the Jewish calendar picture aspects of God's redemptive plan, starting with Passover and ending with the Feast of Tabernacles. The Feast of Rosh Hashanah pictures the moment of the Church's resurrection (also called the Rapture), which is why a trumpet is blown during the feast. That tekiah gedolah is a prophetic picture of the trumpet that will blow at the Church's resurrection.”

From the article “HEAR THE SHOFAR” (https://www.jewishmadison.org/5781/hear-the-shofar)

  • “The following blasts are blown on Rosh Hashanah:

Tekiah (תקיעה‎) is a single long blast of the shofar.

Shevarim (שברים‎) is composed of three connected short sounds.

Teruah (תרועה‎) - in most Sephardic and Ashkenazi traditions, this is a string of many short-lived, broken blasts made by the tongue (e.g. tut-tut-tut-tut, etc.). In the Yemenite, Tunisian and Babylonian Jewish communities, it is a single long, reverberating blast.

  • It is customary for the last tekiah in a set of 30, and the last tekiah blown overall on a day of Rosh Hashanah [of the 100 blasts], to be extended in length, called a tekiah gedolah (“great tekiah”).

  • The shofar blasts follow a prescribed pattern:

tekiah-shevarim-teruah-tekiah

tekiah-shevarim-tekiah

tekiah-teruah-tekiah

From the article “The Meaning of the Shofar Sounds” (https://www.shofar.co/?item=89&section=170)

Shofar sounds - What do Rosh Hashanna Shofar sounds mean?

The notes a skillful shofar blower can produce from this magnificent musical horn are far from being random. Each and every shofar sound has a role in preparing the mind and soul of the listeners to the spiritual process they are about to go through. [I would add here that every trumpet-like ministry sounding in these last days also has a specific role in preparing God's people for His return.] There are essentially four traditional shofar sounds:

  • Tekiah – One long blast

  • Shevraim – Three medium length blasts

  • Teruah – Nine short staccato sounds

  • Tekiah Gedolah – One extra-long blast

There is not a single meaning to each of the shofar sounds. Over time, many meanings have been attributed to each type of shofar sound; however, there is essentially a consistent theme running through the various interpretations given for each particular shofar sound. [Some are somewhat “mystical” in nature to me so apart from what is right below I didn’t add them.]

First Shofar sound - The Tekiah

  • The laws of Jewish halacha regarding the sounding of the shofar demand that all of the shofar notes sounded shall have a Tekiah to precede and succeed them. The Tekiah, with its long straight sound, is the bookends of all life. It comes first and it goes last. [Again, the first and the last relate to Jesus.]

  • Tekiah is also considered to be the sound of the coronation of the King. Every year, during Rosh HaShannah, The new Jewish Year, G-d is crowned King of the universe. Crowning Him King acknowledges that His commandments are for the good of mankind and that His concern is that people live in peace and harmony. Tekiah accepts His reign in our lives.
